The Ocean Carrier, the Captain, and the Crew

CarrierOnce cargo has been turned over to the ship, it is the responsibility of the captain and his crew to safely transport the cargo to the destination port. That is why the selection of a shipping company, if goods are being shipped on a liner service, or a particular vessel in a charter environment, is a critical decision to be made by the shipper.
The carrier should provide a safe and seaworthy ship fit to carry the cargo. The carrier needs to be thoroughly experienced in the carriage of breakbulk cargo, especially when there are expensive and complex project items and heavy lifts to handle.

Captain and CrewIt is the obligation of the carrier to ensure that the ship is adequately manned, equipped, and under the proper command of a Captain who will ensure that the cargo is delivered safely to the destination. The crew must have the knowledge and skills required to handle the specific types of cargoes usually carried on the ship. The Captain and his crew are expected to exercise due diligence to safeguard the cargo onboard.
