Effective Communication

Effective Communication

Effective communication is paramount for the successful transportation of cargo. Communication is also necessary as per the terms of the contract and the INCOTERMS that apply. The seller is required to inform the buyer when the goods are shipped and the buyer is to inform the seller when he receives the goods. Such communication should be made in writing either by fax or, by email and is to be acknowledged by the receiving party. It is a good practice to keep all parties associated with the sale and transportation of goods informed of its progress, and more significantly, when it is passed from one service provider to another.
During the booking process, the carrier indicates the name of the ship and the loading and discharging berths at the port, to both the seller and the consignee. During the transportation on land and sea, the organizations that provide the transportation services, are to keep all parties informed of dispatch, transit, and deliveries. At the point of delivery, the consignee is obliged to confirm in writing the time and date of the delivery to the seller, shipper, and carrier.
